10-Piece Jump/Blues Jazz Band Led by John Karpenko
Originally formed in 1978 as Shox Johnson and his Jive Bombers, they played mainly in Toronto, gaining a reputation for lively, fun oriented jazz with a bluesy edge, mixed with lots of ribald humor.
These days see the colourful characters of the band playing an even wider variety of styles and material from the Jazz and Blues tradition; ranging from the Great Depression of the ‘30s through to the Great Depression of the Present. In other words, they perform a lively variety of off-beat jazz and blues classics from all eras of the genre. Led by Trombonist John Karpenko, there’s always a sense of fun and mayhem when these old friends get together to play their wicked horn-heavy mix of jump-blues and jazzy swing tunes.
They are John Karpenko (Trombone), Alex Dean (Sax), Bob Brough (Sax), Johnny Johnson (Sax), Brigham Phillips (Trumpet), Gord Sheard (Piano), Al Henderson (Bass), Curtis Smith (Drums). For this performance only, they will include special guest vocalist Terra Hazelton.
