Amanda Martinez is a Toronto-basedsinger/songwriter whose music exultingly blends her unique Mexican and South African roots with flamenco soul. She is usually described as a Latin jazz singer but her style is more eclectic with world music, cabaret and pop elements.
Her amazing band features guitarist Kevin Laliberte (co-founder of the Sultans of String), bassist Drew Birston and Cubanplayers Rosendo Leon Arocha Jr., Alexander Brown and Osvaldo Rodriguez.
Martinez’ latest CD “Mañana” was helmed by GRAMMY-winning producer Javier Limón.This and her previous 2 solo albums have earned her three Latin Jazz Artist of the Year nominations at Canada’s National Jazz Awards. Her songs have appeared on three Putumayo
world music collections: Bossanova Around the World, Latin Dreamland and mostrecently, Cafe Latino.
Martinez has headlined at the legendary Blue Note jazz club in New York, at the 2010 FIFA World Cup Festivities inSouth Africa, and at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara and performedin a series of concerts during the 2015 Toronto Pan Am Games.
In the media, Amanda is currently hosting PANAMANIA—a TV series she produces with CBC Sports that highlights Toronto’s cultural scene and hosts and co-produces “Ingredients for a Good Life” to promote Mexico to Canadians. In 2014, Amanda was awarded Top 10 MostInfluential Hispanic Canadians by the Minister of National Revenue.
